This is a really big moth (see how big it is next to the shapie and dollar bill) that I found in my garage, captured, and then set free. I had never seen a moth this big before. When it first flew by I thought that it was a bat. Does anyone know what kind of moth this is???

It may be a polyphemous moth, though I don't see the large eyespot o n the rear wing. Pretty sure it is a moth of the same genus, Saturniid.
Got it!

Migrates up from Mexico.
In Mexico, thought to be a harbringer of death. In Texas and Caribbean, thought to be a harbringer of wealth!
Huh, that explains why I saw a moth like that in Mexico...
Incidentally, Andrea had almost exactly the same post recently, only without the pictures.
In Brazil, my country, have many ascalaphas black witch moths in summer.
In my City, Rio de Janeiro, have a huge Shopping name New York City center, and have a giant Liberty Statue.
In 2001 during the night a lot of moths are landed in the statue, more than 100, and some terrible thing ocurred in New York City in 2001.
